Should not be advertised as rear facing
I’m going to try my best to explain this...but here is my review on the Safety 1st Jive Convertible car seat. I purchased this car seat to put in my moms truck as a rear facing car seat until Posey is flipped front facing. I installed it in my car to begin with so I could make sure it was set up properly and ready to go before we made our trip to North Dakota. I noticed there was a slight issue when I put it in my car but figured it was because I did it quick. So I took it to my moms and installed it in her truck for the trip. Thought all was good and we started our journey. We stopped to get gas the first time and noticed Posey was leaning further back and the level line was no longer level to the ground. Figured I did it wrong again and just reinstalled the seat and continued going. Stopped for gas again and the seat was leaning backwards again. So again I adjusted it and went about our way. When we made it to our destination I made a comment to my mom that the seat just wasn’t securing the right way. Pulled the book out and made sure I did everything as it states and I had. So we just went about our trip. Then we moved the kids seats from my moms truck to my sisters truck and I could not for the life of me get it to sit properly rear faced. So I turned her front facing against my own judgement because it was secure and felt safer then putting her in it rear facing. I felt better about it if she sat front facing then rear at this point because clearly something was off with the seat. We went to leave and head back to California and I installed it in my moms truck again and it just wouldn’t secure right. So I rolled up a blanket and put it underneath it hoping that would help. And it didn’t... so we put her front facing again which in turn caused her to get carsick and vomit all over. So I rolled those blankets back up and flipped her back around and drove home. I wrote the company an email about my concerns and hadn’t heard back. But it just wasn’t sitting well with me. So I called them today and they pulled my email up and spent 30 minutes FaceTiming me to ensure that I was installing the seat correctly. Which I was. They called another employee in to watch me install and tighten the seat into the car. I showed them how easily it pushes backwards and how she would wind up laying on her back just about in the car. They told me the seat isn’t compatible with my car. I told them I have installed this specific seat in not one, but three different vehicles and it does it in all three. They said that it must not be compatible with any of them. I looked on their website to find a compatible car seat list and couldn’t find one. Also read reviews on amazon and their website stating the same issue I’m having. They ended up issuing me a refund and having me destroy this seat and will ‘look into’ others to see if they are having the same issue. I’m not sure how I feel about that but I hope this post sways some people on purchasing this and saves a babies life. Because even the lady on the phone from the company said the seat should not push backwards so far that the baby is laying on their back. Your child should not be able to push their feet on the back seat and move the car seat backwards. Ever. And that was the point I was trying to prove to them. I’m not sure if they even believe me. But by golly I will not purchase another seat from them.
