Dante's Digital Inferno
This product has been an absolute disaster right out of the box, which is quite surprising. The reason I purchased this model is I have used a My Passport Ultra 1TB for many years and it has functioned perfectly. This product crashed the day after I loaded information. I almost had a heart attack (which is not good because I've already had one). I called WD for assistance and the technician said "you'll have to re-format your hard drive." I almost lost it. By the grace of God the product ran an internal scan and repair on its own and I was able to save my data. It crashed again today and I was able to restore functionality by restarting my computer. Presently I am in the process of transferring all data back to my Ultra. To add to this tale of woe I have been on the phone with WD no fewer than 6 times in the last 48 hours, in an attempt to log on to their website to request a return authorization. I sign on with my password. It says incorrect password. I request a new temporary password, enter, put in a new password, it says accepted, I re-log back in to request a return form and it says incorrect password. I repeat steps one an two again. At least 5 times. I still can't get in. Twice they have told me my account as been inactivated ( why?????). They said it has been re-activated. I still can't get in. I feel like I'm stuck in digital hell. I also asked why this product crashed within 24 hours out of the box and they said it is mechanical and that oftentimes happens. Really???? Are you kidding me???? How about a little quality control. As of this moment I don't know what will happen. I've been told that they have elevated my concern to senior management (as if this is a senior management issue) and I might be able to sign on in 24-48 hours. Beam me up Scotty. Thank God for single malt Scotch.
