I will never buy a Hearthware product again
I bought the NuWave PIC especially to use in our RV. When it arrived, I tested it with my pots at home, and then packed it with the other items I was buying to outfit our new RV for full-time travel. I boiled water to make pasta once, and the second time I pulled it out, I got an E1 error message telling me that my pot was incompatible! Same pot I tested at home; same pot I used the first time; pot is magnetic, and has an induction symbol on the bottom.
I emailed customer service twice, on September 10 and September 16, and received no response. I called the number on the back of the cookbook, and the phone options are to access the phone directory by name in English or Spanish. Well, I don't know a name, so I started making up names until I was able to get a person. Lexi spent several minutes repeatedly asking for my name and zip code, until I figured out that she thought I had ordered it directly from them. When I told her that I bought it through a catalog (to avoid their outrageous shipping charges), she said she couldn't do anything until I provided proof of purchase. Also, she gave me a different phone number than the two on the back of the cookbook. What's up with that? A secret customer service number?
I explained that I now live full-time in my RV, had purchased the PIC expressly for use in the RV, and all my old records are stored in a locker. I am traveling, and won't be able to get back to see if I even still have the receipt until next May. Of course, the required proof of purchase is to see if it's still under warranty. By May, it will be well over a year from purchase. I explained all this to Lexi and asked to speak to a supervisor. They were all in a meeting, I was told, and Lexi called me back to tell me to make sure the PIC was on a flat surface (yes, countertops in RVs are flat), and to clean the surface of the PIC of dust (I store it in its own travel bag, but I wiped it shiny. She said if it still didn't work, they would need proof of purchase despite my explanation.
I then emailed through a different page on the NuWavePic website, and just got an email back. I am reproducing it here to show how horrible their customer service is. No, I didn't accidentally duplicate the text - it arrived with the paragraph repeated. This, combined with the phone option problem and their lack of assistance, tell me they are not a quality company I will ever do business with again.
