I set it outside on a table the afternoon it was delivered. The next day, I plunked it in the pool, turned it on and is has been running constantly, day and night since then. Living in Arizona, we get plenty of sun, do there is enough stored battery power to keep it running at night. The only question is durability, because it is a brand new product. I chose this over the Solar Breeze because of durability issues for that product, and the difference in price. Likely won't know for a year if the risk was truly worth it, but for now it looks like winner winner chicken dinner! Update 8/17/2020. This has been in the pool for over a month and just keeps on trucking! This is pretty sensitive to debris around the paddle wheel or the propellers. It stopped once and the lights turned red. I pulled it from the pool and found a slim piece of palm frond wrapped around the paddle wheel. Once I removed it, it was once again off and running. I think this will actually make the motor last longer as it won't try to keep going when it is restricted. I will try to remember to update this at 6 months and 1 year. Update 9/21/2020. The robot has stopped working. Just over 90 days, and it tried to get going, only to wind up in reverse. It then errors out, all the lights turn red and it stops. I am trying to contact the manufacturer and I will update the review based on how they handle this. But, for $460, I fully expected this to work for a year or two at least. Update 12/7/2020. They did fix the Betta, and paid for the shipping. However, it is now acting up again (turning in tight circles). One it discharges at night, the next day it works for a while before going back into NASCAR mode. I called the customer service and she gave me options for a repair, refund or replacement with a new unit. She indicated that they believe they have resolved the issues, but the new unit won't be in until the end of the month. I chose the replacement option and we will see how that goes. The thing really works, when it works. Update 3/31/2021: I cannot recommend this product. While it works, it works great, but there is just no durability to the motors. I had the original one repaired twice before they sent the "new/improved" version. After just a few weeks, the thing began to error out. I did some investigating and found that the left propeller was sticking in a particular spot. I couldn't see any obvious reason, but could definitely feel the resistance. This would be my fourth return since the original purchase in June of 2020. So at this point I am requesting a refund.
