I have previously purchased Kiva Vanilla Bean powder, and it was a nice dark, one-colored, brown, vanilla powder that smelled like it should... like vanilla. I don't know what this is, but it's not vanilla powder. It smells strangely, sickly, chemically sweet, for lack of a better descriptor. But not like vanilla. It is also a mottled mix of colors, dark brown, light brown, and light tan colored flecks. I'm quite unhappy, as this is a very expensive ingredient to purchase, and it apparently cannot be returned. So I'm out $30, and have some chemical dirt-like substance that I'm afraid to use. I realize there is a vanilla shortage, but misrepresenting what you are selling is a shameful endeavor. I thought Kiva was above such tricks. Do not buy, you will regret it. I took a chance that the bad reviews were just picky people. They're not. This stuff is awful! Edit: I wanted to add a warning. If anyone has SEVERE ALLERGIES, do NOT try this product. I have Celiac, and MCAS....I am allergic to many, many things. Including whatever this powder is. I have used Kiva Vanilla powder in the past, and not had any problems. Whatever is in this current incarnation of their vanilla powder gave me anaphylaxis last night. My hunch is it's either whatever that chemical smell is, or possibly sugar. BUT IT IS NOT 100% PURE VANILLA POWDER AS ADVERTISED.
