Beware of fakes and knock-offs!
I ordered this pack of filters from Amazon. I assumed I would receive a legitimate product. I was so very wrong. Beware!
I had previous purchased these filters from Costco, so I am familiar with how they should look, work, and function. Noticed multiple red flags with these filters:
1. Extra lightweight. These things have a little weight to them because they should contain filter material;
2. Came as a set of two 3-packs, rather than one 6-pack;
3. No lot number on the bottom of the box. The real thing has a stamped lot number on the box;
4. Each filter came wrapped in a cheap silver colored plastic rather than the usual gold foil-type wrapper.
5. The filter housing was deep purple in color, not blue.
If that wasn't enough, the ultimate tell was after I installed the filter. PUR recommends running cold water through the filter for 5 minutes. You will hear the filter fill and displace the air inside. The water will initially trickle out during this process but is running at pressure after the 5 minute rinse. These fake filters provided me the instant pressure of a firehose and splashed everywhere. These was no filter elements to provide resistance. If you want to impress your enemies with unfiltered tap water then buy these.
