Sounds great on paper, not very good in practice.
I was excited about this thing because it sounds like a perfect companion to the 2020 HD 8 Plus fire tablet, but they cut too many corners to make it worth buying.
First, the power cable for it should have been USB-C, so you could either use it to power the wireless charging dock OR any other USB-C device by plugging into it directly. That way, you could also use your many other USB-C charging cables you surely already own to power this dock if the dock's original cable breaks or gets lost. Instead, they have an archaic, device specific power adapter that's just one more thing you have to keep track of. Granted, this is probably intended to be set up on a nightstand once and left there forever, but in my use case, I intended to bring this on the road occasionally. That leads me to my next point...
This dock takes up a lot of space and it doesn't collapse any smaller for packing to travel with. If you, like I, thought this would be a cool set up to travel with occasionally, you are mistaken. Surely, you'll want to toss your HD 8 Plus in a bag and take it with you on both short and long trips, but this thing is too cumbersome to bring along, and there would be a high risk this would break if packed in luggage unless you arranged it extremely carefully, or pack it in its original box with fitted(ish) foam.
Last negative point is that while it can theoretically wirelessly charge many other devices, I had an extremely difficult time getting it to charge my Galaxy S20. On a dozen or more attempts, I couldn't consistently (less than 50% success rate) get it to charge my phone. It initially seems to work but after a few seconds, the charging indicator LED flashes red and stops charging my phone. I wanted to use the dock to charge my phone overnight and swap to the tablet during the day while I'm at work but those hopes are dashed. There's no way I'm going to have one wireless charging dock for my phone and another for my tablet sitting right next to each other.
Overall, it's bulky, won't travel well, and really only provides the minor convenience of not having to plug your new HD 8 Plus in to a USB-C charger when you're at home. I highly suggest just getting a case (which you're definitely going to buy anyway) that also serves as a kickstand to use the "show mode" when desired. The use case is too limited to justify the cost and space it takes up.
