I bought this vacuum because it was highly recommended by a family member. It has nice features in the way it converts from upright to canister and so forth. However, it does not perform very well on hardwood floors, especially when used as an upright. So I have to drag the canister around all over the house when I clean. And unfortunately the canister mode performs very poorly on carpets and fails to remove dirt from my area rugs. Regardless of mode, it does not clean as well as my old far less expensive Eureka. I replaced the Eureka with this Shark because the Eureka's hose end kept breaking and it was expensive to replace it. Now my Shark has broken too. A small red button that attaches the hose near the base of the machine inexplicably broke while I was cleaning. In searching for a replacement for this very small part, the absence of which has rendered this product completely useless, I discovered a Facebook conversation about this same problem. It apparently is a design flaw of this vacuum and similar Shark models. I am still waiting to hear from the company about a replacement. Despite being a fairly common problem, the part is not available for sale on Amazon or elsewhere that I could find. I am not happy at this point. Buyer beware.. Update: All I got was a run around on Facebook "customer service". I had to correspond with more than one person, each of whom collected some of the same information from me but provided nothing in return. Ultimately they told me to call customer service. The product is defective and once it breaks, you will not be able to replace the little part that could make it work again.
