The "two performance tuned front-firing sub bass radiators" are not speakers. There is only one real speaker and a tweeter!
I bought the entire T series 5.1 setup, upon setting them up I noticed that the sound wasn't too impressive considering there are 3 speakers in each tower (4 counting the tweeters). I took the covers off and found no sound or movement in the lower two speakers. I thought maybe a wire had come loose in shipping, so I removed the faulty "speakers" from the enclosure and was shocked to see they are dummy speakers with no magnets or wiring! (See photos) These towers are really just bookshelf speakers in an oversized enclosure for twice the price! I will be returning. What a scam by Polk Audio!
Edit**
I can no longer return the speakers as I have had them too long. After posting my review, I re-read the product description and saw the part about the "two performance tuned front-firing sub bass radiators". It was my own error for not knowing that meant non-functioning speakers shells.
Now understanding what passive radiators are (in relation to speakers) I decided to do an experiment. I mounted some simple cardboard pieces where the "passive bass radiators" were located, and my non-audiophile ears could not hear any difference in bass production.
I thought maybe the problem was my receiver, so I dug out an old set of (mid '90s) Pioneer 6x9 3-way car speakers from my garage, and hooked them up to my home system, and they actually have significantly more bass, even in their much smaller enclosure.
I will have to live with these until I get 4 more proper speakers installed and wired to replace the (IMO) useless "bass radiators" in these towers. ...or I could just rock my vintage 6x9s in their torn and oil stained enclosures for arguably better sound, but I don't think the wife would like that too much.
