NOT waterproof. Got in bed last night and found that my mom's little Papillon had peed in my bed. Took off the sheets and this mattress pad to wash them and my new expensive mattress underneath was wet! Glad I didn't count on this for an elderly person if it couldn't take what a tiny dog puts out. Now shopping for a better mattress protector.
