a shame the return window *just* closed, because last night I was using one of these to power a 150psi air compressor and I noticed a "smoking" smell, after inspecting the cable I noticed that one of the prongs on the male end shows severe heat damage, the boot is melted and browned/blackend, and basically the cable is unsafe and unusable. the air compressor is a 10amp appliance (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006CVXGR0) and I've owned it for quite some time and I've used it with 18/3 and 16/3 cords.. so I assume I received a faulty extension cord. i'm just glad i wasn't using it for something unattended... this looks like it could have caused a fire :( I opened up the outlet and there appeared to be no heat damage, it's entirely localized to the boot on the extension cord.
