MORE MISS THAN HIT
Having read some of the reviews here, I knew finding a good fit would be a challenge; however, I didn’t think it would be virtually impossible. Sure, the 541s allow big quadriceps a good amount of breathing room and can accentuate a solid build. But good luck finding a pair that fits well. The major issue with these jeans, aside from the fact that they’re pricey, is the lack of regularity in the fit and sizing when you go from one color to the next. I bought several colors in my normal jean size, 32 x 30, and here’s what I found: —The jet is true to size and tapers to a narrow hem. —The rigid dragon is stiff, somewhat large in the waist and seat, runs straight from knee to ankle, and has a slightly wider hem than the jet does. I didn’t like the fit and sent it back. Both jet and rigid dragon were made in Mexico. —The stealth is not 99% cotton and 1% elastane as advertised. It is 65% cotton, 33% polyester, and 2% elastane. The color is a rich dark gray, but the fabric is as stiff as plywood. Maybe because of the stiffness, or maybe because it doesn’t appear to be as generous in the thigh area as the others, I found the stealth to be a less than stellar fit. —Both the timberwolf/cruz twill and the graphite/cruz twill run straight from knee to ankle and are WAY too big at the waist and hips. Both were made in Cambodia. I reordered them in a 31 waist. The timberwolf was still too big! With a belt in place the excess fabric bunched around the waist. I tried on the graphite in size 31W: It was slightly loose at the waist, sat low on the waist, and had a short front rise. Not at all a flattering fit. In a size 30W (I’m not one who gives up easily), the timberwolf had a slightly tight waist. These inconsistencies made the buying experience a nuisance. I had to go back and forth with Amazon multiple times to try to find the right size, and in the end, out of five different colors in various sizes, only the jet fit me accurately. If the Levi’s tag says “541” in size ____________ (fill in the blank), then the buyer should be able to pick up a pair from a shelf or order it online confident it will be the right fit, regardless of the color. What a grand waste of effing time.
