Save money and buy a stainless steel version
This aluminum lemon squeezer broke on my second use. I gave my beloved stainless steel lemon squeezer purchased two years ago at Sur La Table to my mother so I thought I try a cheaper one from Amazon. This Amco product was highly reviewed and popular so I gave it a chance. What a disappointment. First, the squeezer is light due to being made of aluminum but not in a good away. It felt like a toy vs a handy cooking tool you can count on for years. But I tried to reserve judgment in the face of my girlfriend immediately criticizing my choice. Second, the yellow "paint" was horrible. Unlike the one I bought from Sur La Table, the paint was uneven and you could even see the base color coming through even when it was new! I was very disappointed but I figured just use the damn thing. What am I going to do, go through the trouble to return a $10 item? No, I thought. But I was left with no choice when it broke on my second use. I didn't even squeeze that hard. I couldn't believe it. So my advice to all of my fellow Amazon loving, regular lemon squeezers:
1. Don't wast money on any cheap aluminum squeezers, whether it's Amco or another manufacturer. I don't think aluminum or anything that has plastic components are fit for squeezing mechanisms. Spend extra few bucks on a stainless steel kind from a reputable manufacturer. Otherwise, you will end up spending more time pissed off and possibly writing a review to help others not buy a "lemon." Not worth all of the grief for a $10 purchase.
2. Most lemon squeezers are too small to handle large lemons, e.g. the kind you get from Costco. I would purchase a stainless steel orange squeezer. They are normally too small to handle large oranges but perfect for large lemons.
This is my first review after so many years of relying on other reviewers on Amazon. Someone pointed out that the best way to thank others for their reviews is to write reviews that could be helpful to others. So here is my first effort in paying it forward.
PS: I am going to post a picture of my broken squeezer. Figure pictures are worth a thousand words.
PPS: Amazon was fantastic with my request to return. They just refunded my money without me having to return it. I love Amazon!
