On breaking up with my favorite shoe...
If I could give this shoe ZERO stars, I would. This review is intended for those of you who faithfully love and buy this line of shoes (the Gel-Noosa's). This was my shoe. The one that I could buy over and over and each time they updated it (I started with a pair of 7's) and released new colors, I was more in love with the shoe than the last time I bought them. I trained for/ran a marathon and countless other races in them. When they released the 10's, however, the shoe changed entirely. I noticed that they started sacrificing arch support in favor of a less bulky shoe-I had that shooting pain/burning sensation in those tiny muscles on the underside of my foot. Problem is, this is supposed to be a stability shoe. So it still needs to have a solid foundation and a thicker bottom. The shoe also got really narrow in design as well, with far less toe room than it used to have. This was perhaps the first time with the Gel-Noosa's that I needed to go up at least a half size in order for the shoe to fit. On to the 11's: I read some reviews that spoke of the improvement from the 10's to the 11's. False. I made the rookie mistake of wearing the shoes out for a long run after they arrived to "break them in"...and the only thing that got broken was my feet. My poor toes were RIPPED TO SHREDS by the end of the run. Blisters for days...that's where I am right now. I can't put socks and shoes on, even if I wanted to. Thank goodness for sandals. No good, Asics. No good. Alas, I will have to do what most normal runners do and go get fitted for a new stability shoe in a store. This is me breaking up with the Gel-Noosa's. They've simply changed too much, and not at all for the better. (And they no longer glow in the dark). We had a good run, Asics.
