NOT useful if the person you wish it to protect from harm is very mobile. The speaker and microphone for conversing with whomever is called is located ON THE BASE UNIT, so if the 'protected person' strays beyond earshot of the base unit, there will be no option for dialog with anyone the device calls. Worse the outbound message is limited to SIX SECONDS! That's awful! I find the device less than useful for the purpose of a 'medical alert system' - all the competitor's products feature microphones and speakers in the pendant/bracelet, but NOT THIS MODEL. I do NOT recommend this unit for anyone but the bedridden.
