Bests & Worsts Reviews from Amazon

I had high hopes for this book, but it did nothing for me. Stephen King (and many other reviewers) proclaimed it wonderful, and I love some of King's books so I gave it a toss, but Tallent is no Stephen King. Incest is a bit of a third rail for me. In some ways, I felt like the incestuous relationship between Turtle and her dad was really just in there to shock the reader. It didn't serve any other purpose. Had Tallent removed the incest, and kept everything else the same, her tale of triumph and rising above circumstances could have been just as meaningful without alienating readers like myself (and many other on here) who don't want to read in graphic detail about a father's horrific sexual abuse of his child. But that's just my two cents...
