Should have listened to the other reviews, re: teflon particles
I wanted to ignore the warnings about teflon particles so badly, because everything else about this blender sounded so good, and I'd looked forward to getting it for months.
As soon as it arrived I did the teflon test, blending just pure water for several seconds, then pouring into a clear dish over a white countertop. Low and behold, teflon particles. At least 30.
That was it for me - I returned it and am not going to try my luck again and again with this company, who think this is an acceptable result in such an expensive blender. My first clue should have been when I received the box, it had obviously been opened & re-packed before, almost as if another customer had returned it before they sent it on to me. Is this same unit just going to make the rounds now until it finds an owner who doesn't do the test?
Worst of all, a spokesperson for Vitamix told Buzzfeed that this is an issue of "customer preference" and "not a safety issue". http://www.buzzfeed.com/virginiahughes/vitamix-blenders-spin-off-shards-of-teflon-but-its-probably#.nsE27EyR7
Guess it's an unpopular customer preference to want a blender that doesn't disintegrate into your food.
After returning this I ordered a Blendtec, Vitamix's closest competitor, and so far I love it. Nice, rounded blades as others have said, that do the job but won't slice up your fingers. And guess what: no teflon!!! Same test, not a single flake. And a bonus: the vitamix didn't fit under my cupboards though that was a selling point in buying this model, but the Blendec does.
Hope this saves you some time & return headaches!
