Don't buy it if you want to use your own design or print and cut option
I purchased this machine for my sister telling her that my own silhouette machine has problem with Print & Cut. 1-[PRINT & CUT ISSUE]..I actually convinced her that this will help her to run her small crafty business. I did not use it for a couple month since I was supposed to send it overseas for her(too heavy could not mail it so I was waiting for someone to take it for me) Anyhow today I gave it a try while I was making my son's birthday cards ready. I had 16 Chase Character on a piece of cardstock which I wanted the machine to cut only around the edge of each one of them. The first two sets cut terribly so I called customer service and they told me that the machine needs to be calibrated. I spent about 3 hours doing the calibration and none of the cut samples even during the calibration and after that was perfect. I am talking about cutting a rectangle and a square shape nothing complicated etc. 2-[software issue] I did try to print the shapes using the Cricut Software to see if this helps, but no luck. still getting out of border cut. I did arrange the paper, checked the paper size, the positioning numbers, etc etc. Did not work!!! I have to say that I work with a handful of the Graphic program so understanding the software was not an issue here but the software itself lacks the adjustments or fixing itself. It even does not have a search button or help button on top so at least you can get help while you are in design space. The software freezes many many times and it is very frustrating since sometimes it does freeze in the middle of your work or during calibration and you need to start from the beginning. 3.[software is only available online] it means that you can not use it while you don't have access to internet, it might not be an issue here in Canada or Us but it definitely will be an issue for other countries which they have limited access to Internet or even for people who pay for the Internet base on their usage, not on a monthly basis. 4.[Membership] you need to get a membership in order to use the images and already made template on the website. They don't let you see what is available so you need to pay for the membership and cross your finger wishing the design that you are looking for is available in their selections. I did not find what I was looking for and comparing to my Silhouette store, I found it very very limited. For my Silhouette machine, I could purchase each design separately and they are mostly under 1 dollar but here you pay for the membership and still need to pay for some designs which of course it is the one you need it!! 5.[Sound] when I purchased this machine having sound while cutting was another concern for me since my own Silhouette machine makes lots of noises and we both(I and my sister) work when our kids are sleeping. The sound is way louder than their advertisements so be aware if it is your concern. 6.[Weight & dimension] I mention this since it was a concern for me it is very heavy and the dimension is way bigger than being able to carry it in your carry-on during a flight. so you need to send it as a separate package and wish it does not damage. So if you travel a lot and you need to take this machine with you or you purchase it here and want to take it with you to your county, think again. 7.[Accessories & material Cost] if you want to use this machine for the different material you need to have different blades and blades and other accessories are expensive. 8.[Mat] the mat is very very tacky and even the light grip one ruins your delicate papers so while this machine might cut your design on delicate papers (and in my experience on a regular 60-80 lb cardstock), it will ruin your design after since you won't be able to remove it from the mat without damaging your design or your paper/cardstock.I mentioned this to customer service and they told me that I need to purchase certain accessories with it, Why an expensive machine like this does not supply you with what you need for even your first basic cut? All my cardstocks and paper(during practice time) rolled or jammed or even ripped while trying to removing it from the mat. 9.[cutting edges are not perfect) I have tried a couple design(from the Cricut Store)expecting that at least that one would be perfect but unfortunately the edges were not fine even after changing it a few times so it either does not cut you materials fully or it does damage the mat underneath even with the recommended blades pressure etc which came as a default for the paper that I used. I have tried to adjust the pressure but it really did not help that much. PROS: 1.The machine looks beautiful and has sleek design and this is the only positive comment that I can get. There are many more issues that I found with this machine and mainly maybe becasue I am comparing this with my old Silhouette machine and wondering why they did not come up with a better design comparing to that old machine. I wish I could have used this machine sooner so I could return it and now we are stuck with this expensive useless machine and I don't think that they would take it back since I have not found their support customer service very helpful. I have some photos from the fact that I explained above and maybe I can share a video demonstrating it, but I will upload that later.
