I've ordered the blazin pepper version multiple times and the quality is usually pretty good and consistent. With that said, this recent order came with one of the beef sticks noticeably shorter than the others and very discolored for some reason. I didn't see or notice any punctures in the packaging or anything else that would cause a discoloration. I didn't want to take any chances of getting sick by attempting to eat it so I tossed it out. Perhaps I just got a bad batch. I know it happens. I'm probably going to look elsewhere for my snack options.
