JUST NO
Ugh I really do love a majority of what Ms. Rose writes but I hated this storyline. I will say, I hate books about criminals (and cops to be honest) and I hate non-con or “dark” romance. Non-con fantasies are totally different from romanticizing men who treat women badly or like lesser human beings. But I’ve been pleasantly surprised by ms. rose in the past so I gave it a go and was not thrilled. Anyways, caveat aside...A successful lawyer gets kidnapped by her baby daddy who is a criminal and then changes her whole life around to fit his desires but RR writes it like it was really the heroine’s choice so it was fine. First of all why does she have to hate her job? Can’t we have books that celebrate powerful, working mothers or just generally ambitious powerful women?! Also if either of them were going to change their jobs it should be the criminal so he doesn’t go to prison and lose out on being able to be a father/coparent. Frankly that was never addressed and that was the main issue in the first place! Never mind that (maybe spoiler but like not really) he was a smuggler of antique furniture and not doing anything super nefarious. Also, he literally kidnaps a woman which right of the bay is a big old red flag and in my book would eliminate anyone as a potential partner. The whole storyline really frustrated me and made me sad because the premise could have been the same just without the non-consent and it wouldn’t have had to lose anything. Anyways, I’m sure I’m in the minority and a lot of people like trash men as romantic interests but I hate them and thus I didn’t enjoy this book.
