Quality has deteriorated -- change in manufacturing?
First, I want to state that this is the 3rd one of these I've purchased. The other two were amazing, wonderful devices that made hulling jam-quantities of strawberries a dream. They had sturdy metal prongs on a well-balanced spring that allowed tough monster-sized strawberries to be hulled as easily as edge-of-overripe tiny gems. The other two were replaced due to loss -- used daily during the 4 months of strawberry season here in CA -- but NOT replaced because of breakage or malfunction, they were sturdy.
THIS most recent one? I could cry at the deterioration in quality. What's up with the cost savings on manufacturing? They ruined a previously great product. THIS one has thin metal prongs that bend and deform with tougher supermarket strawberries, and a cheap spring system that doesn't allow that prongs to open wide enough to be useful on the big berries. Until the manufacturer takes quality-control seriously, don't waste your money on this cheap, useless version.
