Midge has screwed up SO MUCH of her life by inappropriately revealing private things about others in her act. Any normal person by now would have learned there are lines which should not be crossed. Midge definitely would. She is a quick study. She is articulate and insightful. The dialogue in that scene where she fights with her ex over sending their son to private school was brilliant. She KNOWS how career-destroying and LIFE ENDANGERING it is in her time for someone to be gay, especially for a black person. She would know not to say the things she said about Shy. Why did you write her doing something so stupid? Stop playing with the audience. Midge is smarter than this and we, the audience, are smarter than this.
