I’m a huge fan of both detective novels and fantasy, so I was super psyched about this book. The concept is great— unfortunately the execution is lacking. Characters make decisions that don’t make logical sense, the plot is full of holes, and the writing is awful. At one point, a wet towel lands on the floor with “a wet-towel sound.” I blame the editors. This book had a lot of potential, but read like an early draft. These are questions and problems that could (and should) have been addressed before going to print.
