Reconsider
Must Read- I moved this from the final days of my problem to here because of the nature of the issues and the positive reviews; I bought my mower from a box store and toward the end of dealing with a major problem I was reading the instruction book and saw something I had missed, it said and I quote "...If you have a problem with your Husqvarna mower take it to your friendly Sear store...". Why is this important? I did not buy it in a Sears store! Come to find out it was to have been their one of their flagship models but had so many issues it was picked up by other companies.
After mowing with the Husqvarna YTH21K46 I found the belt would come off. I spoke to the store then their customer service at 1-800 who told me that was because it was new and after the belts were broke in, it would quit . Didn't make much sense but they were adamant, however it continued and eventually I insisted it be fixed. First the authorized dealer said that type defect had to be addressed in the first 30 days therefore there was a $130.00 charge. Then they claimed it was because the mower was dirty. They were referring to a five minute demonstration given their representative when they picked up the mower. I am aware there is a design issue with the mower deck as when you use the mulch kit debris gets forced out the top of the deck into the belt area. I questioned both the box store and the service center on how you could mow the yard without it getting dirty? At that point it was returned to service and this time I was told it was because he deck was uneven and charged another $100.00. When I informed them the deck had been checked and had not been uneven, I was told by the box store I could not send the mower back again. The problem still exist. Then I saw were Husqvarna knew of the problem and had issued a factory notification. I sent that information to the service center and the box store corporate headquarters. Corporate informed me they had no control over the situation and it was up to Husqvarna; the service center stated they had knowledge of the defect and for me to supply them a copy. I complied but it did not help any.
Husqvarna has no idea of how to spell service when I contacted their customer service and tried to explain the mower deck had an engineering defect (when using the mulch kit all the grass is forced up into the belt drive assembly and no exaggeration you can almost get a bag full of clippings out of the housing) I was told they only took that type information from their service centers. Having spent a life time in dealing with similar situations I asked if they thought a company obtaining its income from repairing this issue (can't be repaired at our level) would report it killing the "golden goose"?
After a year screwing with issue, the box store sent it to yet "another" service center. Note: the original service center had had it four times for over 8 combined months; this facility had it a month and actually instructed to replace every part (records are available for your review) in the drive. They actually complained stating that made no sense as it would cost more than the original item. However they were instructed to comply. As I mentioned this was and is a known problem, I was told there were 882 +/- mowers currently with the same problem; the drive belt stretches and there is no means to tighten it, so the mower cannot move. It seems when installing a new one it too stretches and you have the same problem. The only fix and you'll love this is you assembly the belt on the mower, in other words you connected the two ends while it is on the unit. I laughed so hard I almost cried the last center who tried to be upfront and honest asked the Husqvarna representative on the phone "doesn't that violate the warranty"? "yes". They ended up authorizing it but the mower would barely move along.
Cut to still more issues between the box store and Husqvarna it took them three weeks to get the replacement authorized. I think this might be important to you, keep in mind this was under the manufactures warranty though I had purchased the extended warranty. This important because I was told I was lucky because I would had to been responsible for all the different pick-up and delivery charges ($1000+) as these are not covered. As I mentioned lucky for me I had purchased the extended warranty because no one mentioned that policy until the issue was over, I was lucky in more ways than one as if I had been hit with that after what they put me through you would not be reading this, Virginia jails do not have access to the computer.
I put this at the top and here, in the final days of my problem to here because of the nature of the issues and the positive reviews; I bought my mower from a box store and toward the end of dealing with a major problem I was reading the instruction book and saw something I had missed, it said and I quote "...If you have a problem with your Husqvarna mower take it to your friendly Sear store...".
