★☆☆☆☆
Rehashed and condescending.
The author has a very successful YouTube channel and if you’re one of her loyal, adoring fans you will probably enjoy her book. You won’t read anything in the book that hasn’t been spoken about multiple times on her channel. What is curious is what is missing. There is no advice on how to manage a difficult divorce or an early retirement situation or her new boyfriend, all of which took place in her life after the book was written. Thus it loses any real relevance that it might have had. She dispenses innocuous advice on getting a hobby, getting enough sleep, eating right, exercising, prayer, and being classy. All things we’ve heard many times by people who are much more qualified to give that advice. She does very well when she sticks to hair and skincare in her videos. This is different. What I found especially offensive was her admonition to “Treat everyone with respect and kindness”. Had she left it at that, it would have been fine but she goes on to say “including those of lower social status, underlings at work, and those in the service industry.” Ugh. Nothing classy about that statement. It smacks of elitism and privilege and made me want a refund. There are much better options for women who are interested in self-improvement. Qualifications matter. Skip this one.
