Backwash 50x - AT LEAST!
I couldn't be more disappointed in this product. I added 100 lbs of ZeoSand to my sand filter. I backwashed 3 times - for 2 minutes each time, because the bag said that was very important to do it once, and I wanted to be sure I did it well.
Within 1 hour of filtering the pool, the water began to turn green. I contacted the manufacturer and was told it was "zeo dust" - which is supposed to be removed by backwashing! So the solution isn't at all what I expected - which was to floc and backwash the zeo sand - the solution I was told to follow was to buy a bag of regular pool sand and add it. This, I was told, would drop to the bottom and filter out the zeo dust. What? If zeo can filter down to 3 microns and sand 20 microns, how will adding sand help?
I will update this review if the solution works as I don't feel like removing all the zeosand at this time.

UPDATE: 8-24-2017 After thinking long and hard about the solution, it made no sense to me. Why would adding a bag of regular pool sand fix the zeodust problem. Ray (the zeo sand manufacturer who told me to use regular pool sand to fix the issue) also told me that through multiple backwashing and clarifying, the zeo dust problem WOULD NOT GO AWAY ON ITS OWN). But how could sand, which can't filter nearly as fine as ZeoSand filter the very dust that was making my pool green. Also, the ZeoSand wasn't clearing up the cloudiness in the pool, which is the reason I changed the sand filter media in the first place.
I had no intention of opening up the filter again, should the zeo dust continue to cause an issue, so I bought 200 lbs of regular sand ($10 per 50 lb bag) and took out all the zeo sand, replacing it all with regular pool sand. Within two hours the sand filter went from 15 lbs of pressure (when first turning it on) to 30 lbs. I backwashed and turned it back on. Eight hours later the pool was noticeably clearer and less green - the sand filter was back to 30 lbs of pressure. I backwashed again, and within another eight hours it looked almost perfect (pressure built to 22 lbs). After another eight hours my pool was blue and crystal clear, and my pressure is holding at 15 lbs.
When regular pool sand works so well, to pay 2x as much for the risk involved makes zero sense. I screwed up by not listening to the bad reviews - and while you may buy this stuff anyway, at least backwash more than the 3x that I did. I don't know how much you should backwash, but don't stop just because the water coming out looks clear. Do it over and over again.
