Inside surface not flat. Coating description is hype.
Nice looking pan but the inside was not flat. I put a little water in the pan and it formed a ring around the outside instead of pooling evenly over the entire surface. This was before the pan had ever been heated. Also the advertising for the pan is very misleading. They call the coating "stone-derived" and "inspired by nature". The sticker on the pan states that it uses a Greblon C3 coating. A little research on the Greblon website shows that C3 is a Teflon (PTFE) coating. There is no mention of stone in the coating description. I'm a little fuzzy on the connection between Teflon and nature. Ozeri seems very proud of the fact that their pan is PFOA-free. The same is true of most Teflon pans. PFOA was historically used in the process of manufacturing Teflon but its use has been mostly phased out after concerns were raised in the 1980's about possible carcinogenic effects. I will be returning this ban because it is not flat, not because of the Teflon coating. Teflon is considered safe unless heated above 500 degrees F so I will be purchasing a different brand of Teflon pan. Ozeri also offers a line of ceramic coated pans on Amazon. You have to admire the marketing team that can put together a pitch for their Stone Earth Pan that makes it sound very green and nontoxic while the description for their ceramic pans praises the fact that they are PTFE free and states “At very high temperatures PTFE begins to decompose and release fumes which are documented to be lethal to birds and small pets, and which can be harmful to humans”.
