WORST CARD EVER!!!
Worst CC website ever!!! If you have both promotional and non-promotional balances, even though the Amazon Store Card site says that you can allocate your payments to your non-promotional balance first, it NEVER works (I've tried for about 2 years)! To make it more complicated, the transactions themselves are organized in such a way that it is difficult to tell what they are doing without opening each individual drop down arrow. As such, I've had to create an Excel spreadsheet that uses formulas to extract data into a usable format so I can keep track of what they do each month. Worst "customer service" ever too!!! Because the checkbox on the website offering the "choice" of how payments are allocated never works, I have had to call them every month to change the allocation. The automated system is annoyingly long-winded, and can’t be bypassed until it has provided a plethora of useless information (including account info that I already have). Once I get to an agent, it is common that the agent either hangs up on me (I’m hoping by accident), or doesn’t know what to do to take my payment and allocate it in the way I’d like. They also have recently started arguing that I have to pay the minimum payment toward the promotional balance before I can allocate any portion of my payment to the non-promotional balance. Synopsis: WORST CARD EVER (I'd give 0 stars if I could)!!! When they modify the allocations, they modify the allocations with some bizarre algorithm that applies a small portion of your payment to each of the promotional balance line items (rather than just paying them off from first due to last due). This is a problem because you may think you have paid off a balance that has to be paid by June, but because they are applying some of your payment to the one due in September, you may wind up not paying a promotional balance by its due date. My advice: IF you can't get another card with similar terms, then try to use only one transaction type (promotional interest rate OR cash back – note that because of the weird allocation algorithm, I’d say the cash back is the only good use of this card). These people are apparently unfamiliar with the CARD Act (it has only been in effect since 2009, why review it?!?); and that might bite you if you don’t monitor their every move. It is true that the CARD Act allows a CC company to allocate the min payment in any way they like; but it is at the very least unethical to offer the consumer a "choice" that will not be honored. Not to mention unethical to make the site so convoluted that they might just make money off of you via smoke-and-mirrors when you have done everything right.
