The book is a maybe
I read the full-fledged preview of this horror novel and maybe with a huge chunk of editing where tension is slowly built, and you actually got to care a bit about the characters, this could actually be a pretty good read. As it stands, the book specifies in the very first page the derelict house for no reason whatsoever has floating tentacles (hentai porn?), and Elaine is in her 60's and knows the house is weird, but she is going back to the realtor after the two book protagonists apparently already bought it just for the convenience of moving the plot forward. There is no explanation why a guy with a new well paying job would actually want to buy a fixer-upper house that makes trailer park homes seem like 5 star resorts. No conversation in the first page among the married couple that they were amateur flippers, or have a thing for living in eye sore houses, or the job contract was still probational (and even then, a couple "testing the waters" in a new town are more likely to rent than buy a derelict house that will be extremely hard to sell). I will give the array of glowing 5 star reviews the validity of the doubt that the book somehow resolves the myriad of plot holes I noticed within 5 pages, while still trying to spook us even though we already know from page 3 it has tentacles and causes people to faint for no reason whatsoever.
