Used to be terrific - Now not so much
There have been some unwelcome changes since I bought my last batch of these. For example:
- The yellow sponge material used to be stiffer. Now it feels worn out the minute you start using it.
- The yellow sponge part is thinner than before.
- The Scotch-Brite layer is only half as thick as before, so it wears out quickly.
- You get a disturbing bright yellow dye in your suds, even after several uses. The old ones released minimal dye during the first use, then no visible dye after that.
I happened to have one last unused "old style" sponge to compare these with. The pictures attached to this review are from the first use of both sponges. They were both rinsed and wrung out for the appearance comparison, then suds-upped and squeezed out onto a white plate for the suds comparison.
Even if I had never used these before, the dye issue alone would cause me to steer clear, at least for dishes. These are probably still fine for scrubbing sinks. That's assuming the sink is already yellow or you want it to eventually be yellow.
