This bag is NOT "genuine" leather. It IS beautifully made, solid construction, but it is a heavy-duty fabric of some sort covered with polyurethane or vinyl or ? Some kind of plastic. NOT LEATHER. Maybe some parts are leather, maybe it's thin, cheap leather with a fabric backing and a plastic coating; and that is NOT "genuine" leather. Giveaways include: 1) the obvious plastic coating on the edges of cut pieces, handles and buckle flaps etc. 2) when even gently twisting (parts of the handle, for example) the skin reveal fine wrinkles in the plastic coating. This bag would no way stand up to months of daily use. 3) the SMELL! the description on includes that there is a "genuine leather smell" but that is NOT what the powerful odor is; it's offgassing volotile synthetic/chemical compounds from the manufacturing process. 3 days outside on my balcony and it still reeks. 4) the BIGGEST giveaway is the scrape on the bottom of the bag, where the thin pink plastic coating is flaking off. I'm super disappointed. I LOVE the look and size of this bag. It would have been the perfect work purse/tote; it fit my laptop, snacks and water bottle, plus all my purse items. Would have eliminated the need for a second work bag. Back to shopping...and now even more wary of all the great reviews on Amazon! Or, could so many people really not be able to discern that this bag is not leather?
