Mildew Smell
It's a nice medium-firm, memory-foam mattress for a solid surface, like a floor or a box spring. I think it would be fine as a floor mattress for houseguests. I bought it as a spare mattress for a new, twin pull-out sofa bed. With only the bare sofa bed springs, it does not provide enough back support. I am 180-lbs, and my hips sink into it when I turn on my side. It's pretty uncomfortable, but better than the flimsy 4" mattress that came with the sofabed. It's actually not too bad with the flimsy mattress underneath because it provides a little spring support, but that elevates the bed pretty high. I've ordered a 2-inch foam mattress topper to put underneath or perhaps on top to add firmness and support.
The main problem is the mildew smell. It arrived eight days ago, and I let it inflate outside on top of the clean plastic that it came in. I covered it at night with a new tarp so that condensation wouldn't form on the mattress and let it off-gas a full 48-hours. The mildew smell had dissipated enough to bring it into the house and put it onto the sofabed spring. This is the sixth day that it's been in the house uncovered in an open guestroom, and it still smells like mildew, even through a brand new freshly laundered mattress pad. This is not a "new carpet" or furniture showroom smell.
The smell dissipated a little, but it's still strong enough to detect when you walk into the room. I'm getting frustrated because I don't want to tear the mattress apart to check for mildew, and it's now fully inflated and too hard to stuff back into the box to return. Haven't slept on it, yet, because we're hoping the smell will go away. I can compensate for the lack of support by adding firmness either under or on top of the mattress. If worse came to worse, we'd move it to the floor. But, the smell is a problem.
FEBR 2019 UPDATE: BUYER BEWARE—Last November, the company was slow to respond, and I ended up purchasing a mattress pad, instead. We exchanged emails, and the company rep offered to replace the mattress. By that time, I did not need a replacement, and it was impossible to return the mattress once it is removed from the packaging. I asked for a refund and did not get any further response. The mattress was unusable because of the persistent lingering mildew smell, and we had to throw it out. Sorry to say that I cannot recommend this product or endorse the company's quality assurance of a 10-year worry-free warranty. Bottom line, the company would not stand by its assurance of customer satisfaction.
