Great Juicer/Terrible Customer Service!
This is a great juicer, but I question the quality somewhat. One side of the pulp screen is always packed with more fiber than the other, which makes me question whether the clearances between the gears and their portion of the screens are differential. For the cost of this juicer, the tolerances should be much better; that is, almost exactly uniform within the housing. I tried contacting the U.S. Juicer company representative several times and he was completely useless when I did eventually get a hold of him; here's why: He took a long time to respond to my emails and telephone calls; he did not have anything to offer as far as solutions; said he would check with engineering, but never got back to me. I also had a significant problem with the gear removal instructions. The machine did not shut off when slowly pulling the screen housing away from the base. This is what users are instructed to do per Super Angel's instructions. As a result, one gear stayed in the screen housing while the other started moving out with the housing as I was slowly pulling away the screen housing AND waiting for the automatic shut off to happen. When it did NOT shut off, it resulted in the gears impinging on one another, and as a result, the entire screen housing starting twisting around as the motor did not shut off. Some damage to the gears resulted because they bound up against each other due to the impingement I noted above. When I tried to explain what happened to the U.S. Juicer representative, he did not speak English well enough to understand what I was trying to explain (he is Korean). Again, it's a good juicer, but very technical and not for the novice or non-engineering minded type of person. Also, cleanup is sort of a pain. I used a Green Star juicer for over nine years before migrating to the Super Angel. I wanted more efficiency for leafy vegetables and all vegetables for that matter. And while the Super Angel delivers, it's not without some major drawbacks, as I noted above. I also moved away from the Green Star because it is much less efficient at juice extraction (take the pulp and put it through the Super Angel and see what happens) and because their quality really decreased over the years (nylon portion of the gears cracking, motor unit becoming detached from the mounts within the plastic motor housing, etc). To remedy the issue with releasing the gears from the screen housing, I recommend allowing the juicer to run about 20 to 30 seconds after you place the last juicing material into the machine. By running out the last of the pulp, this creates the necessary clearance between the gears and the screen housing to allow the gears to release easily after the motor is shut off. I hope the above is helpful to reviewers. Update: A major problematic issue is the corrosion of the magnet in the housing of the screen when one soaks the housing in vinegar, as indicated in the Super Angel instruction booklet, to remove the mineral scale build up. I'm likely going to ask for a warranty replacement. I will post some pictures soon, IF anyone responds saying they want to see what I'm talking about. Update 2: Did anyone want pictures of the corrosion? Amazingly, the motor still works even with the incredible corrosion that happened to the magnet from the vinegar soak. By the way, I do not soak the screen housing in vinegar anymore, not only because of the corrosion issue of the magnet, but because it simply did not work to remove the scale build up. The only way I found that works to remove accumulated scale is to use a very very fine steel wire brush. I use a brass metal, ultra fine wire brush to literally unplug all the tiny holes; the brass is a soft metal relative to the stainless steel screen housing, so it does not damage the screen. For the tiny screen holes not accessible for brushing, I literally used a fine pin to one-by-one poke out the mineral deposit that was plugging the holes. I accomplished this by placing a flashlight that fit inside the screen housing to fully illuminate the screen from the inside out. This way, any remaining plugged holes because readily visible for targeted unplugging. Once I unplugged the screen, I had much better juicing efficiency again, as over 50 percent of the screen holes were plugged prior to brushing and then following up with the discrete unplugging with the pin. Update 3: Pictures. Amazon finally made it easy to upload pictures and video. So please attached regarding the corrosion issue I detailed above. I sincerely hope all the above is helpful to everyone.
