April 2019: Bought two of these "winter hardy" banana plants last year (2018) and they were advertised as grown in Ohio. If that's the case, then why were they shipped from California? Anyway, I planted both and they did well last summer and fall, then I made sure to prepare them to overwinter. Needless to say, they are both dead. While everything else is sprouting, I can't find stalk, roots, anything of those two banana plants. That's because they're dead and gone. Extremely disappointed because I researched Hirt's Gardens and found them to have a good reputation. I'm 99% sure they died because the cold here in North Carolina killed them. If they had been grown in Ohio as advertised, I'm sure they would have been okay. But California? Read more of their reviews and you'll see I'm not the only one who got California banana plants. My advise ... buy from a local greenhouse and don't buy these or you'll be disappointed (and out of your money).
