'Copyedit' error on bagel recipe
Update: Ms Ahern has alluded to a 'copyedit error' issue with the bagel recipe on her Facebook page. Her commentary: "Some people are finding the bagel dough might need a bit more water (looks like a copyediting error) so I want to help people with it!" I don't know if this makes things better or worse. She's clearly well-intentioned but the ingredients and wasted time spent on making the bagels along with the uncertainty over whether other recipes suffer from the same poor proofing rightfully earn this book a one-star rating. It's possible the inclusion of gram measurements contributed to the editing challenge but there's still no excuse for allowing it to go to press.
I wish I'd done more research before buying this book. The dry recipe measurements are unnecessarily in grams and as others have noted the narrative is pretentious and sometimes just bad. So far I've tried only the bagel recipe and it was a disaster. I think I should have begun with something less ambitious and am hoping other reviewers will post subjectively about what works and what doesn't. I'm a bit shocked at the reviews here so far. One negative review is obviously (and cruelly) a fake and a few gloriously positive ones appear to be written by friends or family.
Other better choices for Gluten-Free recipes: Nicole Hunn's recipes are accessible and delicious with ingredients available in any grocery store. For Foodies, the wonderful and generous Karina Allrich (Gluten-Free Goddess) never disappoints. Her recipes for soups, stews and baked goods are among my gluten-eating husband's favorites and can all be found on her blog.
