Nostalgic.
Sound from this brought back memories of a shirt-pocket AM transistor radio I got for 75 cents and 100 bubble gum wrappers in the '60s. I loved that tiny, plastic radio (with its 1" speaker), but it sounded pretty bad. Back then, I didn't care.
The sound quality of this soundbar is better than that...but I am baffled as to why it would sound so thin and flat. Changing sound settings with the remote made almost imperceptible changes in the sound quality. "Voice" made dialogue better, but everything else was really flattened out. Swapping different hdmi cables had no effect either.
It was very easy to install---I simply plugged in the power cord and connected to the HDMI ARC port on my Vizio M-Series TV (which I run through a Roku Ultra). Boom! Instant recognition, and I was able to control the soundbar seamlessly with the Roku remote. But...the sound quality is just not good. There's almost no bass, and music is blech. I honestly couldn't stand to listen to it for a 30 minute show. The speakers in the TV set sound a LOT better than this soundbar.
I'd be inclined to think that this unit might be defective or a knock-off, as I've never been this disappointed by a Sony product. There are glowing reviews, but also quite a number of reviews indicating that others have had a similar experience to mine. I'll be looking for something else.
