I was hoping to learn about home interior design, but what this book offers is a shallow basic description of many design elements. It says things like, “Determine an appropriate woodwork style consistent with the spatial qualities and dimensions of each room, and in keeping with the overall style of the home,” but then gives zero guidance on how to do that. I’m definitely a novice, and having read half the book now, I’ve learned nothing. The book constantly takes the tone of, “here’s what a color scheme (or other design concept) is, but a professional interior designer can do this whole thing so much better than you, so you might as well just put down this book, stop kidding yourself, and hire a professional.” I’m disappointed at having spent so much $ without having learned anything.
