★★☆☆☆
Disappointed with effectiveness
I have been experiencing chronic mouth dryness for several years now. For me, the dryness affects the back of my mouth, at the top of my throat. I need to be frequently drinking water, and still, I experience times that my parched throat interferes with my speaking--not a good thing for someone who is both a therapist and a yoga teacher! I have used different types of drops before, and they do help. I decided to try these XyliMelts because they were very highly rated here on Amazon, and so I thought that they would work even better for me. Sadly, this was not the case. These melts are designed to stick to your gums to produce long-term effects. There is a sticky (tan) side that you are instructed to position outside one of your molar teeth, attaching to the tooth/gum, with the melt resting against the inside of your check. I experienced several problems with this method. First, it takes several tries to get the melt to attach. Second, the melt really has to be more on your gum than on your tooth, as the melt needs the stickiness of the gum rather than the unevenness of the tooth. Once the melt has adhered, it does adhere tightly--perhaps too tightly! So the third issue is that if you need to remove the melt for some reason, it is difficult to re-position, and you might wind up pulling off some of the skin of your gums in the process. But the bigger problem I had with these melts is that they just were not overly effective for me. When I use as instructed (positioned between my gum and my cheek), I got almost NO relief from these melts. They are so tiny that their area of effectiveness is extremely small--so having the melt on the outside of my teeth only affected the outside area, not INSIDE my mouth where I need the help! To combat this, I tried to position the melt inside my teeth instead. This made it slightly more effective, but still way less useful than other drops that I have used. With these melts, I find that I need to constantly rub my tongue over the melt to get the benefits to release into my mouth. And because these melts are so tiny, they don't last long, making any benefits extremely short-lived; this results in me having to use these melts repeatedly, one after another, still with very little positive impact. Because these melts stick, they are designed to be use safely overnight. And yes, I can get them to stick and have used them in this way, but I wake up with no significant improvement. Frankly, I have used other types of drops overnight and have never had any problems. If safety for overnight use is your main concern, then these melts might be for you, although be aware that you may need to use multiple ones at the same time and repeatedly replace them. Otherwise, there are other products that I prefer and that I will definitely return to over these, which I will not be repurchasing.
