Side and front are insulated, but rear is not (unlike other options) and will reach very high temperatures. Melted the plastic plug. No mention in manual. We longer use this and cuisinart did not offer adequate support - we can ship it back at our expense for their review and see if it warrants repair. Very disappointed, as other cuisinart products are top notch.
