Clumping? What clumping?
EDITED TO ADD ALMOST TWO YEARS LATER: I sadly lost the cat I wrote about in my original review below and with my new kitty decided to give Precious Cat a second chance because my previous cat had CRF and urinated more than usual so I thought with a healthy cat maybe my chances of it working would be better because she makes little tiny pees that would surely be well absorbed in at least four inches of litter, right? I bought three - yes three - 40 lb. bags because they were on sale. And that was one of the worst cat-related decisions I've ever made in my 28 cat-owning years of life. Not only was every single thing I said below still 110% true to this day but this time there was ZERO odor control. Zero odor control for pee and zero odor control for poop. I could have just brought some dirt in from my backyard and put it in the box and it would have been as effective as this litter. I ended up also giving Everclean another chance and it absorbed the urine into hard scoopable well-formed clumps instead of Precious Cat sludgy goo, it absorbed the odors that Precious Cat allowed to permeate both floors of a two floor house, and overall it did what I pay for litter to do [the only downside is it is dustier than Precious Cat]. So it just shows me that there are litters out there that work and how much Precious Cat continues to fail at being one of them. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I read all these glowing reviews, figured this must be the cat litter of my dreams with the superb clumping and no dust, and even bought it online as no store anywhere nearby had it [not even Petco, though they sell it online through here!] So why, pray tell, was this the second worst cat litter I've ever used? [That honor goes to the brand I was using a couple of litters ago, Scoop Away, which I only bought out of convenience of it being at Costco, which sucked at clumping and had a lot of dust]. As for Precious Cat? Ok, I'll throw it a bone - the dust situation was much better compared to Scoop Away and many other supermarket brands, there was barely any at all. However, I put a good 4-5 inches of cat litter in the box and I might as well have put nothing in there at all because every single time the urine would just make its way to the bottom where I'd have to spend a good 15 minutes scraping it off the box [a normal litter cleaning would usually have taken me less than 5 minutes]. The litter at the very top was clumped, around the middle was a muddy pasty mess, and at the bottom would be the rock hard glued-to-the-box layer. Do you know what's an enjoyable way to spend your time? NOT having to keep your face as close to a box filled with cat urine for as long as possible, which is exactly what using this litter forced me to do. I don't know if they've changed their formula or if all these reviewers are just out of their minds or if I got a bad batch or what but this was beyond terrible litter. I've since been having a much easier time using Fresh Step Odor Shield Unscented clumping litter because, hey, it actually clumps!, though now that too has become hard to find in stores [the scented version, if you're into that, I do still see regularly]. I apologize in advance to my UPS guy and all the litter he keeps lugging to my house.
