I purchased four of these radios based on the reviews provided by Amazon users. Each family member attempting to use the handheld lives within a one mile radius of all others. There is no reception at all at the one mile distance. This prompted some testing. At 40 yards degradation of reception begins with clear line of sight. At 100 yards the signal can be heard as static but speech is not recognizable. As a licensed HAM operator I have purchased handhelds in the $100.00 range that function exceptionally well for what they are. I am very disappointed in these radios and hope to be given a full refund. I'm open minded and am happy to try to make them work, but they are not functionally usable as they are out of the box.
