This thermostat has potential to be a really great product. I agree with all of the reviews stating how great this product is / all of the features available. However, over the period of time that I've owned the ecobee3, 7/11/15 - 8/21/15) ecobee's back end that provides the web access and mobile device support has had major issues. This isn't an issue on my end with networking or internet access this is an issue that Ecobee has acknowledged is on their end and that they do not have a timeline in place for the solution.
Logging of runtimes is unreliable - there are gaps in the logs everywhere. Huge sections of data are missing - hours, days sometimes.. This means that I cannot get a readout of how many hours it runs each day, etc...
The moble interface is run through their web access so if I want to control the system using my phone or computer, it is very unreliable, it is slow, states the system is not running when it clearly is, etc.
These have all been known issues of this platform for over 6 weeks now and there is no estimated time for them to be fixed from ecobee. I suggest that anyone looking at the ecobee3 hold off for now until these problems are worked out. In the meantime, this functions similarly to a cool looking $30 programmable thermostat. Hold off and see if these bugs are worked out first.
9/2/15.. Discovering more issues with the ecobee 3. Staging is not being done correctly. I have my second stage setpoint to only engage when the temperature reaches 9 degrees over the current setpoint but the ecobee still engages 2nd stage at seemingly random times. Sometimes it starts out cooling in second stage when the temperature differential is as little as 0.5 degrees. This causes the equipment to short cycle instead of running in 1st stage longer.
Added a picture... This is ecobee's web portal. You can see all of the missing data (the areas where the desired cool temps are missing). You can also see the staging issue at 9:15. The dark blue blocks are second stage.
It is jaw dropping to me that the ecobee is getting such good reviews. Are they fake or are the people giving them just not paying attention?
