The Wrong Artist
The song selection for this album was excellent and read like a greatest hits selection from Hollywood's Show & Musical history. In addition, the effort which went into production was consistent with the excellence which Sony and Columbia have become known for. However, why Sony, with its abundance of talented divas under contract would send Charlotte Church over to Columbia to record these songs is baffling. Miss Church has neither the range, depth, or sensitivity to tackle demanding songs like "Tonight", "The Laughing Song", and "Can't Help Loving Dat Man". Her forte has consistently been those choir-girl type soprano songs from opera, religion, and holiday fare. Sony could have easily raised this CDs ratings from a 1* to a 5* by substituting the prodigiously competent Lara Fabian into the vocalist position. You may remember Lara doing the theme from AI "For Always" in a duet with the very talented Gosh Groban. Ironically, Sony attempts to team Groban with Charlotte in the albums final number. While this is an excellent forum for Groban's talent, it only shows how incredibly weak Charlotte is when straying from her still-limited realm. If you want to see Charlotte Church at her best, you will need to look in her previous albums. You will not find it here.
