Expected better from Cuisinart and $145. Impractical. Would not recommend.
Hard to find photos of this product's components before purchase, to judge if you want to invest the $145. Many photos/vids show food on it, but not the naked components. I am extremely disappointed that the cooking surface "grate" is solid with ridges (open flame doesn't touch the food for char-grilling). It's like cooking in a bumpy pan (George Forman - style) except the juices run down inside the grill. The grease catcher is poorly designed: super shallow & extremely easy to spill as you have to awkwardly slide it out from underneath, and of course you can't see what you're pulling or if it's flat or going to tip/spill. Grease tray is only about 1/2 inch deep & has rounded walls, so the grease just sloshes right up & over & spills everywhere. Stupid design. Also grease tray does not snap in firmly, it just lays wobbly on the slot/rail, so it's not even secure when its in place. The burner itself is a rectangular loop, perforated with small holes. But In daylight, I could not see the flames at all. I had to feel to see if heat was rising up to determine if it was even on! The "grate" sits down inside the top edge, making it impossible/dangerous to try to lift it at all to see the flame height once it has been turned on & is hot. How are you supposed to adjust the flame when you can't see inside it? The meat drippings, burnt pieces, & hamburger crumbles all fall down into the burner chamber and get stuck all over its rounded inner cavity & under the burner tube - very difficult to get your hands in/under to clean afterward. The handle does not lock into place into any position so it is always in the way. And if you lift up the whole unit, it could tip or swing becuz the handle won't lock. The base is designed to store a one-pound propane cylinder, but the instructions say never keep/store the cylinder near the grill unless it is hooked up for use! The unit itself is extremely heavy for such a little thing. Don't expect to carry this out for a walk & a picnic! Pro's: 1) It's cute. 2) It has a propane hose rather than stiff arm connection. What good is cute gonna do if I won't use it becuz it's so messy & clumsy?
