Ever listen to “One Piece at a Time” by Johnny Cash?
So my son is finally to the age he is graduating from a crib to a “big boy” bed. He’s on cloud nine because in his mind he is not a baby anymore. So we order this product and we are excited because of next day delivery. We build up the excitement by telling our son, “tomorrow night you get to sleep in your big boy bed!”
Then the next day happens. Our product arrives, daddy has all his tools ready to assemble, mommy is gonna place all the stickers and decals perfectly, we’re ready to go. Our two kids rushed with excitement help carry the bed piece by piece to my son’s room. We’re ready to go... then disaster sets in.
My son is not moving up. He’s not graduating to a big boy bed. And here is why. At some point, someone screwed up. I get it, these are mass produced plastic pieces, but at the end of the day no one checked to make sure our box had a complete set. And once we laid out all our pieces we found out we did not have a piece F. Rather we had two identical piece H’s. (I work in the automotive industry so I’ll break it down to you like this; we were sent two driver side fenders, but no passenger fender to match). I could not make a complete race car.
I was mad because this was going to be a weekend event. Daddy was going to build the new bed and my son was going to celebrate being a big boy.... end of story. After I calmed my screaming son and explained that he would have to wait for his “big boy” bed, we then settled in on what we need to do next.
I should have just returned the product to Amazon. They do a great job with returns, customer service, and overall resolution, but instead I make my second mistake (the first was buying this bed). Inside our box is a card that says “don’t return to your retailer, if you have a problem call this number.”
I tell my wife, “let’s call this number and give them a chance to make things right.” God bless her for listening to my stupidity, and she says “ok.”
The next day my wife calls the help line and talks to a customer service representative. The rep tells my wife that she will receive an email with instructions to file a claim. My wife waits, no email. My wife follows up, explains sob story again and this time gets an email with instructions on how to file a claim.
We file a claim. The company request “proof” they didn’t package the bed right. We send them pictures of two driver side fenders. Company responds they will resolve. We wait.
Today we received our resolution. Almost two weeks after we ordered our next day, red, toddle race car bed, we received our piece F (the passenger side fender), and to our delight... it is... blue... not matching any of the other components of the car.
So two weeks after ordering a next day product I have a son still sleeping in a crib, a bed that if put together would still need a paint job, a frustrated wife, and an overall loss of my faith in humanity.
So at the end of the day, don’t buy this bed.
