EDIT. NO LONGER LOVE IT.
EDIT: I am leaving my original review, just to show a time when I didn't know better, but now I do. This cage does not have adequate depth for bedding, which should be more than six inches minimum for roborovskis, and significantly more for all other dwarf species and Syrians, who really should have a minimum of ten inches. There is also no way to mount an adequate wheel, as the included wheel is too small for any hamster, and there is not enough height or depth to install the minimum 8 inch wheel for robos, and minimum 10 inches for Syrians.
Ease of cleaning is also not even a benefit, because full cleaning should not be done that often, as it stresses the hamster put. Cages should be only spot cleaned, with bedding being replaced in approximate thirds no more than every couple of weeks, as long as the enclosure is beg eough (450 square inches minimum for robos, 600 for Syrians).
I could go on, but I recommend just seeking out hamster youtubers like Victoria Raechel and Munchie's place, and researching standards for German hamster care, because theirs are the highest. In the US, we have no legal standards for small animal care, so there are a lot of things that are perfectly legal to sell that are unhealthy and even deadly for your pets. Again, DO NOT BUY THIS CAGE. I retract my original review. I didn't know better at the time, but now I do. When you know better, do better.
ORIGINAL REVIEW:
I have purchased every kind of hamster cage there is over the years, and I think this one beats them all. The deep pan fully contains the bedding and gives plenty of space and depth for my robo to burrow around. It's about twice the size of your average Critter Trail cage, and it has well-defined corners, which help hamsters orient themselves. The wheel isn't silent but it doesn't squeak, and it's the best kind: solid, one-piece construction that's safe for tiny feet and tails, and also very easy to wipe clean. I love cleaning the cage, which is extremely easy. I make sure my hamster is on the lower level, then remove the wire top and the ramp. Then I can fully clean all of her accessories while she is safely contained in the bedding pan. I love that the wheel can be mounted either on the wire bars or in the opening of the second level. That's just great design. I did replace the food dish just because I have two ceramic bowls which I prefer aesthetically (one for her regular food and one for treats. While this is hands down the best cage I've ever had, and believe me, I've tried them all, there is no such thing as a perfect cage. I too would like the top door to be larger and centered, but it's not a deal breaker. The only thing that I absolutely had to toss was the water bottle. Maybe there's some variation to the bottles that ship with this cage, but the one I received had a nozzle that was too thick to fit through the cage bars, so it had to be mounted inside. I don't mind that, but my hamster was then able to chew away the clear plastic band that reinforced the seal between the nozzle and the cap. Not only that, but for some reason the ball wouldn't fully descend inside the nozzle, which reduced the flow of water. I threw it away and replaced it with a chew-proof glass bottle with a slimmer nozzle, and now all is well. This cage is stylish, well-made, and 99% perfect. I've never met a cage that I didn't have to tweak, but this one required the least alteration and is likely to be my last hamster cage, unless they redesign it with a larger top door.
