I had nightly visitors coming and leaving "gifts" on my pool steps. After installing this unit on the grass about 7-8 ft from the steps, the visits have stopped. I haven't turned it on in about 2 weeks, and haven't had to clean up after any raccoon since then. I'm sure they came at first, because I saw the floor wet a few times, and saw my motion security lights came on as well. The sensor is very sensitive. When the water is connected and the unit is on, any nearby motion activates the unit, which makes a very startling "pshhhhh" sound immediately followed by a short spray of water to the sides and front. It sounds like a sprinkler when it comes on, maybe a tiny bit louder, but it's perfect! It startled me SO many times while I was testing or adjusting it from behind it! I definitely recommend this for anyone with similar problems. I'm sure it would also work with dogs or cats roaming in the area, but I can attest that this drives raccoons away. Edited my original review from 5 stars to 3 stars, and to mention that it didn’t last very long. The base snapped while I was turning it to adjust it. It lasted less than 3 months. I didn’t use it every day.
