Non-History, Complete and Utter Crap
I feel sorry for those that come to this book honestly looking for other perspectives and actually believe this pile of crap. I did that myself many years ago after hearing Matt Damon in Good Will Hunting speak about the book. Unfortunately Zinn is not a historian, doesn't care about history, and only cares about making left wing statements on history. He is the Oliver Stone of historians (apt since Stone relies on Zinn for his idiotic low IQ series currently on cable). Read a couple comments on Zinn from other historians:
"I don't take him seriously, he's a polemicist, not a historian." Arthur Schlesinger
"A deranged Fairy Tale." Oscar Handlin, Harvard
"Bad history, albeit gilded with virtuous intentions." Michael Kazin
"The balefully influential works of Howard Zinn." Sean Wilentz
These are comments on Zinn from LEFT WING HISTORIANS, not the right wing traditionalists you might expect to critique a leftist like Zinn. Here's just one example of hopw terrible and non-historian he is: Zinn writes that The Rosenbergs and and Morton Zobel (accused Soviet spies during the cold war) were "railroaded with weak evidence and that their trials were meant to "show what lay at the end of the line for those the government decided were traitors". Later, when Zobel CONFESSED THAT HE WAS ACTUALLY A SPY for the Soviets, Zinn said: "to me, it doesn't matter whether they were guilty or not." Yes, that sounds like words of a historian.
Terrible thinking, terrible history, and that is a non-partisan review. Don't rob your brain by purchasing this book.
