BE AFRAID TO HIT PRINT - TOS (instantink.hpconnected.com/us/en/terms) ARE ABSURD = HUGE AMAZON FAIL
Steer Clear – Every time I look at this printer, I feel queasy, like I’m harboring a spy. Despite its small compact design and low cost. If you don't sign up for an account and give your entire online life's history to HP – then the issues begin. I thought since this was an Amazon Pick it had been reviewed thoroughly and that Amazon would never throw customers into the lion's den without any protection. However, this introductory ink and paper cluster comes at a huge price; with so many conditions in its TOS are absurd, including not the ink or its cartridges not belonging to you. In order to get the offer you have to create an account which you agree to let HP remotely change, patch, update, or otherwise modify your printer’s software, firmware, or programming, without notice to you” to provide the Instant Ink service. HP also says it will remotely monitor your printer’s page count and ink status, get ready for the extra charges as well as the “types of documents printed (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, pdf, jpeg, etc.).” The printer MUST be connected at all times to the internet. HP Instant Ink cartridges are the property of HP and must be returned when empty, or when your service is canceled HP can remotely cut the functionality of the cartridge. No third-party ink ever - each cartridge needs a chip or circuitry from HP to ensure the cartridges will function in the printer.
