I want everyone to know about our nightmare experience with these door locks!!! We left our 15 month old triplet babies with my mom and went out for the night. She left the babies "to use the bathroom really quickly." About 5-10 seconds after she went in the bathroom one of our babies easily pushed the bottom latch right up and locked her in! We had no idea this was possible and didn't believe her at first when she told us the baby had "locked her in." Let me be clear, if this happens to you there is literally no way of getting through the door aside from breaking it down. You would need some tools to take the door down or remove the handle. So you may want to consider keeping a screw driver in each room that has one of these door locks (especially the bathroom!). This is the defect: if don't completely collapse the bottom latch all the way then you can easily push it back up into lock position with little effort! Meaning a baby could lock a parent into a room! Unfortunately the room my mom was locked into had no window and absolutely no way of getting out. She tried as hard as she could to break the handle or push the handle down hard enough to break the child lock but wasn't able to do it. She even tried to pull the pins out of the door but couldn't get them loose. Our poor babies and my mom had a traumatic three hours where she listened to them crying and traumatized, reaching their fingers under the door, trying to get to her but couldn't. This product gives me so much anxiety now I cannot ever endorse it and am removing all of them (we have 12 of them!) and throwing them in the trash! I recommend you try a different product or be SURE, EVERY TIME you go into a room without your baby that you have completely push the bottom latch down all the way, against the door otherwise you too could be locked in a room! I'm just grateful that nothing was on the stove when my mom was locked in! It could have been so much worse!
